Established within family, corporate, institutional, or personal contexts, private archives face unique challenges regarding their preservation, access, and public dissemination. This round-table brings together diverse experiences to demonstrate how, across different scenarios, it is possible to find solutions that serve as examples of best practices.
Paulo Batista Archivist and researcher, holding a PhD from the University of Alcalá de Henares, specializing in Architectural Archives. Currently the Director of the National Archive of Torre do Tombo, he is a Corresponding Member of the Portuguese Academy of History and a researcher at CIDEHUS (University of Évora).
Lígia Martins Archivist at the National Library of Portugal (BNP), where she coordinated the Rare Books and Manuscripts Department and co-organized reference works such as the Preliminary Guide to the Archive Collections of the BNP (1994). Her career focuses on the preservation and description of national archival and bibliographic heritage.
Madalena Arruda Garcia Retired archivist from the Torre do Tombo, former Deputy Director of the IANTT, and former Director of Archival Services at the Portuguese Institute of Archives. She dedicated a decade to the complete transcription of the Diaries of Oliveira Salazar.
