As part of its international training activities under the Erasmus+ programme, the Lisbon City Foundation (FCL) held the 6th edition of the Mediation and Intercultural Dialogue course between 11 and 15 May 2026. The training brought together 16 participants from seven European countries: Italy, Greece, Finland, Belgium, Portugal, Denmark and Germany, representing nine different organisations in the fields of education, lifelong learning, social inclusion and community development.

A week dedicated to peer learning and intercultural dialogue

Over the course of five days, the training provided a space for collaborative and intercultural learning, focused on strengthening skills related to mediation, intercultural communication and managing diverse contexts.

The diversity of experiences and perspectives within the group was one of the key enriching elements of the training. Participants included professionals from local authorities, social organisations and educational institutions, fostering a strong international and interdisciplinary dimension.

An experience highly valued by participants

The overall evaluation of the course revealed a high level of satisfaction, with an average rating of 4.5 out of 5.

Participants particularly highlighted the dynamic and participatory nature of the training, valuing the strong interactive element of the sessions, the link between the theoretical content and the practical discussions and exercises carried out, the energy and dynamism of the methodologies used by the training team, as well as the cultural and professional diversity of the group, considered one of the most enriching aspects of the experience.

Learning from Lisbon and the community

In addition to classroom activities, the course included practical experiences linked to the local area and the intercultural reality of the city of Lisbon. One of the highlights was the Migrantour guided tour, led by migrant guides from the Renovar a Mouraria Association, allowing participants to discover the stories, journeys and contributions of migrant communities in the city and to explore Lisbon from a perspective very different from that of the usual tourist circuits.

These experiences provided direct contact with practices of inclusion and community participation, reinforcing the importance of local areas and narratives as spaces for learning and dialogue.
