How can we make the concepts of Development and Global Citizenship accessible to everyone? These concepts are often expressed in language reserved for “specialists”, making them inaccessible to people.

It was with this premise that, in 2018, the Lisbon City Foundation created the Dicionário do Desenvolvimento, in partnership with Associação Renovar a Mouraria, IMVF and with the support of Instituto Camões.

Dicionário do Desenvolvimento: discover this tool for everyone who wants to learn more about global citizenship

As the name suggests, the Dicionário do Desenvolvimento (DD) functions as a dictionary of Development and Global Citizenship concepts. Each concept is explored in depth and linked to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development Goals. Most importantly, for each concept, we present resources to take action and points for reflection so that everyone can explore these concepts in practice.

Initially created with 33 concepts, the Dicionário do Desenvolvimento has a library of Development Education and Global Citizenship (DEGC) resources that is constantly being updated!

A tool at the service of the Lisbon City Foundation’s development education projects (and beyond!)

Since its creation, the Dicionário do Desenvolvimento has played a very important role in the DEGC projects of the Lisbon City Foundation and those of its partners. It played a vital role in the Escola para a Cidadania project, as it was one of the essential resources for accredited teacher training, and they continue to use it in their classrooms.

Cidadania em Jogo: TU decides!, another project featuring the Dicionário do Desenvolvimento

Currently, the Dicionário do Desenvolvimento complements this ongoing project, contributing to the active presence of young people in promoting a more sustainable and inclusive future. The Cidadania em Jogo: TU decides! project is also an opportunity to update the concept sheets. Twelve sheets were already revised in December 2024, and we will continue in 2025 to keep this DEGC tool up to date! We invite you to discover the already updated sheets: Culture, Discrimination, Equality, Inclusion, and Migration.
